MFA sites often employ intrusive ad tactics, resulting in poor advertising-to-attention ratios. Pixalate’s Q2 2025 MFA Benchmarks reports analyze ad trends across MFA websites, mobile apps, and CTV apps.
 
The reports offer insights into ad spend, invalid traffic, ad fraud, and other key metrics. Unlike crawl-based approaches, which can be gamed, Pixalate identifies MFA content through observed global traffic patterns.
 
Key Findings (Q2 2025):
  • 13% of global open programmatic web ad spend—approximately $716M—went to domains identified as MFAs.
  • An estimated $29M in open programmatic ad spend was directed to MFA mobile apps.
  • An estimated $25M went to MFA CTV apps.

State of Children's Privacy on Mobile Apps - Q2 2025

State of Childrens Privacy on Mobile Apps in the USA - Q2 2025 (promo email slide 2)

Personal information of 15M—majority likely children—has been unlawfully processed by COPPA non-compliant apps. Pixalate’s Q2 2025 State Of Children’s Privacy On Mobile Apps Report is part of its COPPA Violation Risks in Mobile Apps series, highlighting app developers on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store that are at risk of violating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.

For the purposes of this report, Pixalate analyzed 1,528 likely child-directed apps with ads, determined to be registered in the U.S. during Q2 2025. Our assessment found that about 240 of the apps covered were risking non-compliance under COPPA.

From this number, Pixalate detected and measured that:
  • 17 omitted to have any detectable privacy policies at all;
  • 223 lacked any one appropriate privacy disclosure, in accordance with Pixalate’s methodology;
  • 191 apps failed to provide the requisite ‘children’s privacy’ disclosure in accordance with the COPPA Rule.
