Puzzle apps appear to be have high association with top targeted apps in the Apple Store, while streaming apps Tubi, Pluto TV, Plex appear to have high association with top targeted Google Play Store Apps

LONDON, July 31 2023 -- Pixalate, the market-leading fraud protection, privacy, and compliance analytics platform for Connected TV (CTV) and Mobile Advertising, today released the June 2023 Mobile Invalid Traffic (IVT) Overlap Reports for the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The series reveals which mobile apps share elevated levels of invalid traffic (IVT).

Pixalate’s monthly analysis of suspicious traffic patterns between mobile devices and apps provides advertising buyers and sellers with the data necessary to combat potential ad fraud. Traffic overlap is one of the signals for potential botnets in the mobile app ecosystem.

Key findings:

  • Top 5 apps on Google Play Store were all from the “Entertainment” or “News” category
  • Multiple puzzle apps - Sudoku.com - Number Games, Wordscapes, Happy Color® Art Coloring Book  show a high association with other targeted apps in the Apple store
  • Tubi, Pluto TV,  Plex appeared to be associated with the apps with the most overlapping IVT for Google Play Store, indicating these apps may also be targeted
