Multiple Movies & TV apps among Fire TV apps most affected by elevated IVT overlaps in June 2023; Local news apps headline the Roku app list

LONDON, July 27 2023 -- Pixalate, the market-leading fraud protection, privacy, and compliance analytics platform for Connected TV (CTV) and Mobile Advertising, today released the June 2023 CTV Invalid Traffic (IVT) Overlap Reports for Roku and Amazon Fire TV. The series reveals which CTV apps share elevated levels of invalid traffic (IVT).

Pixalate’s monthly analysis of suspicious traffic patterns between CTV devices and apps provides advertising buyers and sellers with the data necessary to combat potential ad fraud. Traffic overlap is one of the signals for potential botnets in the CTV app ecosystem.

Key findings:

  • Top 5 apps on Amazon Fire TV were all from the “Movies and TV” category
  • Multiple news apps - WKYT News, WVLT News, KKTV 11 News, WSAZ News apparently targeted on Roku
  • Tubi, Pluto TV, Danger TV, Plex appeared to be associated with the apps with the most overlapping IVT, indicating these apps may also be targeted
