Top 100 Bundle IDs for programmatic advertising in CTV (December 2023)

Key Findings:

  • On Amazon Fire TV, the top 100 Bundle IDs map to 77 distinct CTV apps in December, continuing the trend of a decrease of varied bundleIDs from some large apps like Sling & Fubo throughout 2023.
  • On Roku, the top 100 Bundle IDs map to 64 distinct CTV apps, corresponding to a 5% YTD increase from Q1 2023 (61).
  • On tvOS, the top 100 Bundle IDs map to 86 distinct CTV apps, an 8.5% decrease from the Q3 value (94), meaning Pixalate measured more instances of multiple bundleIDs per app in December.
  • On Samsung, the top 100 Bundle IDs map to 47 distinct CTV apps, a 5% decrease from the Q3 value of 50.

Why is it important to see the top Bundle IDs for CTV apps?

In Connected TV (CTV) advertising, a “Bundle ID” is a string of characters that advertisers and ad platforms use to identify specific CTV apps. However, there is no standardization around the syntax of Bundle IDs, which has created confusion around targeting and measurement.

In general, a 1:1 ratio for Bundle IDs to apps fosters transparency in the CTV ecosystem, signaling the adoption of more unique Bundle IDs and App Store IDs (ASIDs).

Ad fraudsters are exploiting this vulnerability in the programmatic ad supply chain. Check out Pixalate's Q2 2023 CTV Bundle ID Mapping Report for more data about the problem.
