Pixalate's COPPA Manual Reviews: ‘Wildscapes'

May 9, 2024 12:00:00 PM

Welcome to Pixalate’s CTV & Mobile App Manual Reviews According to COPPA, a series containing the detailed factors the Trust & Safety Advisory Board educators used to assess an app’s child-directedness.

The educators manually review thousands of mobile apps available in the Google Play & Apple App Stores as well as connected TV (CTV) apps from the Roku Channel Store and Amazon Fire TV App Store using the COPPA Rule factors shown below & make those results available to the public at ratings.pixalate.com.

This post takes a look at a popular mobile app (1 million+ downloads) from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Our reviewer discusses how the subjective factors set forth in the COPPA Rule apply to the app and factor into the reviewer's determination as to whether the app is child-directed or general audience (i.e., it is not targeting children).

COPPA factors used to determine audience

 and  and

Wildscapes is a charming and interactive game in which players repair a zoo for people to visit. The objective is to have people there for them to spend their cash so the player can fix the zoo considerably more. In the gameplay, players start with one animal and throughout the game more is added to design an amazing zoo. Gameplay includes creating everything from the ground up and selecting different animals, playgrounds, cafes, and decorations. Players will play match 3 puzzles that get increasingly harder throughout the game. The visual content has a colorful and entertaining graphic design in this casual game. The characteristics have child-oriented animation. Players get to use their imagination as they construct a zoo and pack it with animals.

Players have to solve classic Match 3 puzzles to earn stars and coins to buy the things needed for the zoo. The more a player fulfills the requirements of the puzzles, the zoo grows progressively better.

There is no age gate but those under 13 are allowed to use the app with age and confirmation of privacy policy. The app does have in-app purchasing. It is rated E for Everyone in the Google Play store and 4+ in the iOS store.
