Jan 31, 2024 1:00:00 PM

Welcome to Pixalate’s CTV & Mobile App Manual Reviews According to COPPA, a series containing the detailed factors the Trust & Safety Advisory Board educators used to assess an app’s child-directedness.

The educators manually review thousands of mobile apps available in the Google Play & Apple App Stores as well as connected TV (CTV) apps from the Roku Channel Store and Amazon Fire TV App Store using the COPPA Rule factors shown below & make those results available to the public at ratings.pixalate.com.

This post takes a look at a popular mobile app (1 million+ downloads) from the Google Play Store. Our reviewer discusses how the subjective factors set forth in the COPPA Rule apply to the app and factor into the reviewer's determination as to whether the app is child-directed or general audience (i.e., it is not targeting children).

Super Billy Bros - Jump & Run is an engaging, entertaining mobile arcade game in which Billy has to overcome challenges to reach his princess by jumping and running across six quirky well-designed worlds. The gameplay is about overcoming obstacles and smashing creatures through this fun classic platform game.  Players have to become the best runners in order to prevail over hurdles at each level by jumping on top of them in order to improve their abilities.  The animation and visual content explores a colorful and vibrant world of 2D cartoon game art. The subject matter and language in the About Game section have information that is directed to children. It states, “suitable for kids & all ages.”  Overall, the app is an exciting mix of fun and exploration that kids will love because of the easy controls and the race against time.

The incentive is to find all three key coins, collect items such as hearts and fireballs, as well as find weapons to reach the princess and complete your quest.

The app is rated T for Teens in the Google Play store. However, there is no age gate.
