In a letter to the Department of Justice, Senator Ron Wyden has warned that unidentified governments are using push notifications from smartphone apps to surveil users. The data is being demanded from Google and Apple. This revelation highlights another method by which governments can track smartphones. Senator Wyden expressed concern over this situation and urged the Department of Justice to eliminate or alter any policies that impede public discourse regarding push notification spying.
