Assembly Bill 466, also known as the Wisconsin Data Privacy Act (WDPA), was passed by the Wisconsin State Assembly on November 14, 2023, after its third reading. The bill has been forwarded to the Wisconsin State Senate for approval. If the senate approves it and the governor signs it, the WDPA will come into effect on January 1, 2025. The WDPA is modeled after other comprehensive state consumer privacy laws, such as those in Virginia, Colorado, and Connecticut, which are currently in force.
