This week's review of ad fraud and privacy in the digital advertising space.

Made-for-Advertising Benchmarks - Q4 2024

$950+ million was spent on Made-for-Advertising (MFA) content in Q4 2024. Pixalate’s Q4 2024 MFA Benchmarks Reports track advertising trends across MFA web domains, mobile apps, and connected TV (CTV) apps. The reports include insights into ad spend, invalid traffic, ad fraud, and more.

MFA sites often employ intrusive advertising techniques, leading to a poor advertising-to-attention ratio. Unlike methods that rely on crawling—which can be manipulated—Pixalate identifies MFA content based on observed traffic patterns from its global data pool.

Key Findings (Q4 2024):
  • 12% of global open programmatic web ad spend—approximately $888 million—went to domains identified as MFAs.
  • An estimated $40 million in open programmatic ad spend was directed to MFA mobile apps.
  • An estimated $23.2 million went to MFA connected TV (CTV) apps.
